I am a writer, chasing the Muse every day.
A writing mentor once told my class, “You need to have the guts if you want to be a writer”. This is me trying my guts on and finding that I wear them well. And I won’t be taking them off anytime soon.
Like a pilgrim, I am also on this sacred and personal journey for a life-changing reason: to re-discover, reveal, and celebrate the writer in me. I have no idea where it’ll take me, but I delight more in the journey and unexpected detours so I’ll “just take it bird by bird”, or word by word.
I weave witty web content by day and edit articles. It’s fun and I am darn good at it, but what I have always yearned for is to “write from life, from the depths of my soul”. Like many who are called to write, it all began with an absolute love of reading. And so I was at one time or another, Matilda, Hermione, Sara Stanley, Jo March, Lucy Pevensie, Jane Eyre, or a quirky amalgamation of all these courageous girls and other unforgettable literary heroines in my book. Eventually, this hunger for books and stories blossomed into a love for writing. And I am still madly in love with it.
Like the lovable carrot-topped orphan of Green Gables, Anne Shirley, my philosophy is, “It’s not what the world holds for you, it’s what you bring to it”. Writing is that one little gift I can offer to the world that comes from my heart and soul, and I hope to keep on doing it. Life is too short and unpredictable, so there’s no excuse not to do the very things you love and that make you light up like fireworks inside. It’s also my way of giving back to all those authors and stories that continue to inspire me.
So for any one who has ever loved any thing, go after it with all of your heart.
“Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.”
So sayeth this constant pilgrim who “though she be but little, she is fierce”.
And pretty much fierce in yellow too!
